Stuck? Have you asked AI?

I was participating in an AI-training the other week: VPS setup and management, aka learning to deploy AI-coded apps securely on my own infrastructure. For those like me with no tech background.

So far so good, I managed just fine. Until, halfway through, I forgot to hit save. Then the errors started. And of course I had no idea how to fix them (I didn't know I hadn't saved a critical piece).

So I did what I've been teaching for years: I took a screenshot and asked AI for help. Fixed the issue in minutes.

That felt great, almost like I'd become an AI native.

Not because I learned to code. But because I realized that asking the right questions has become my second nature.

To make it even better:  the facilitator kept saying the same thing to everyone in the room: "Screenshot it and ask AI. You need to start working like this."

That's the Post-it I put up on my big screen more than 3.5 years ago. "Have you asked AI?" It's the lesson I teach my clients every single day.

And there I was, living it without thinking. Not because I'd become technical. But because I'd learned to ask first, sit with frustration second.

The shift is subtle but worth so much: when stuck, your instinct is no longer to figure it out alone or find a specialist. It's to ask AI.

What I See With My Clients

None of my clients have a knowledge problem. They often seem to have an asking problem.

They get stuck. They sit with the frustration. They assume they should figure it out alone, or that AI won't help with their specific thing, or that asking is somehow admitting defeat.

Someone told me last week: "When I don't know how to fix my Vespa, I can't just ask the Vespa how it needs to be fixed. I need to ask a specialist."

True. But here's what's changed: before you call the specialist, ask AI. You'll either get unstuck, or you'll have better context for the conversation.

There really is no such thing as a stupid question.

In Short

When you're stuck (on pretty much anything), your first move should be to ask AI for help. Screenshot it. Describe it. Ask it again if the first answer doesn't land.

Treat AI as your thinking partner, your tech support, your first go-to.

Speed, clarity, and momentum come from asking early.

What I Built This Summer
⏱️ Read time: ~1 min Summer is quieter for me, and I genuinely love it. It's time to socialize, spend afternoons at the lake, hit the gym, be with family. But it's also time I use differently than the rest of the year. I'm exploring. I'm upgrading. I'm building things I usually don't have bandwidth for. This summer, that meant a complete website revamp. A whole new marketing plan. And some exci...
An AI investment that paid for itself in no time
⏱️ Read time: ~3 min I just spent $100 on Claude credits to rebuild my website. Before you think I'm reckless, hear me out. I didn't hire an agency. I didn't outsource to a freelancer. I used Opus 5 to audit my existing website and all landing pages (ca. 50, many I no longer use), my entire codebase, establish new coding standards, and design the architecture for a completely revamped site. The...
Why you're confused about which AI model to use
⏱️ Read time: ~4 min One of the most frequent questions I get from both my customers and prospective customers is about model choice: "How do I know which model to use?"  It's an understandable question. Six months ago the answer was more or less straightforward. Now there are countless serious models worth considering, and a new one seems to drop every week. Even people who use AI daily, pe...
